I'm so very pleased to announce that my latest record with Twilight Hotel, When the Wolves Go Blind, has been nominated for a 2012 JUNO award in the category of
Roots & Traditional Album of the Year!
I'm packing my bags tonight for the last few weeks of 2011.
A jet plane will take me to Los Angeles and then to Winnipeg to see the people I love and hold dear. As I pack up my belongings I think of the many times this year I've packed this same suitcase, and I think of all the places it has been, and all the places I have been.
2011 has been a full year.
A year of hard work, self discovery, and love.
I am grateful to all who supported the Wolves release tour in early 2011 in Canada & Europe. That was a long one, i will say, but a good one. I am very proud of that record and I think I will always think fondly of that week in Eagle Rock when we tracked it.
I spent from January 12 to April 1st out there on the cold roads of Canada and the busy highways of Holland, Germany and the UK. That was a whrilwind with too many highlights to list. Many fond memories and special musical moments.
Then the season of summer festivals happened and on a fateful day in July I watched kd lang in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was an amazing performance. I remember thinking, "aha, she's got a pedal steel player", then my ears turned to the beautiful steel sounds on Hallelujah. Little did I know I would, only a short time later, fall in love with that steel player and we would write and live a love story one could only dream of.
In following my life's passions my life path has led me here,
to a place of beauty, creativity, love, and endless inspiration.
I am truly grateful.
2011 has seen me back on stage in a solo setting.
I have had a good run of getting my feet wet again up there
all by myself. I gotta say, I'm liking it.
Many songs are coming and I'm fired up to sing them.
Watch out 2012! You will see me out there with a full band, and EP and then a full length record. Count on it.
2011 has also put me in the side-woman chair. I have been playing lap steel, guitar and accordion with The Trishas. That has been a whole ton of fun and a long time goal finally realized. You will see more of me in that utility chair in 2012, even with other bands perhaps?
I've got some things up my sleeve.
I've got a little more packing to do before I'm ready for that jet plane flight. As that plane takes off I will say "thank you for a great year" and then I will say "Come on 2012! I'm ready for you! Let's do this"
Wopila.
